Muhammad Moves and Artist

Founded in 2019 by Quashierra Muhammad, Muhammad Moves and Artists is a multidisciplinary company that uses collaborative practices and a holistic approach to rehabilitate and nurture the human condition. The founder uses her own sprouting movement language to instill a sense of independence and individualism with collaborating artists by replacing modes of tyrannical allegiance with thoughts of liberation and experiential learning. The aim is to give license to participating artists to venture on the path of enlightenment and support the manifestation of discovering the interconnection between humanity and nature. During her residency, Quashierra will build upon established ideas while involving ultramodern forms to purify the tradition and produce unconventionality.

two in seven billion

TWO IN SEVEN BILLION is an NYC-based physical dance theater company founded by Alex Schmidt and Jessica Eckardt in 2019. The company’s artistic work is influenced by bold athleticism and momentum driven floorwork, combining vigorous dynamics with flashes of fearless tricks. From deconstructed physical spheres, the directors strive to create from the unknown and amp up the madness to challenge their wildest dreams of what is possible. 2IN7 plays in the spectrum from human to outlandish, swirling in the gray space that lies in between. Their work is never truly finished, there is no end result; instead they create a world to exist within where narrative is inspired by the present moment and has the ability to warp into what it is meant to be. Dismantling the typical audience-performer relationship is integral to the company’s work. Amidst in the vastness of our world of seven billion, 2IN7’s work shows the range of experiences and feelings all of us share.

MEAGmove

Founded by Meagan Ahern, MEAGmove’s mission is to foster a strong sense of community within rehearsals and performances by utilizing the talents of local freelance dancers, all the while making the process enjoyable, fulfilling, and worthwhile. MEAGmove’s collaborative rehearsal process carries into the performance setting, providing the audience with a unique look at dance that transcends physicality. The company’s work regularly explores the relationships between weight, momentum, speed, and counterbalance to create movement that is natural to the evolution of the human body. Intention is built through the complex feelings we all have, but have few words to describe.

ReFrame Dance Theatre

ReFrame seeks to shed light on the unknown and reframe the familiar through accessible performance. Accessible in subject matter as it is relevant to audiences; accessible in execution so that diverse audiences are engaged throughout; Physically accessible so that people of all mobilities, body or transit, can experience the work; accessible economically because performances are free or cheap. Undeterred by the unique challenges presented by working beyond (and sometimes within) the traditional stage setting, ReFrame founder and director Nathan Forster believes that dance is an art form that anyone can take part in no matter where it takes place. The founding of ReFrame Dance Theatre was spurred by an interest in the dissonance between ourselves, the world around us, and contemporary performance practice.  ReFrame hopes to rectify this dissonance by promoting and providing opportunities for audiences to engage with dance experiences on their terms, and through fresh work that reflects who we are as a human beings on this planet.

tk dance lab

Led by Stephanie Tolbert-King, TK Dance Lab is an online experiential platform for dance artists with a commitment to inclusion, equity and diversity.

The mission of TK Dance Lab is to:

  • Connect artists across state lines and area codes through collaboration

  • Make social justice a priority and use dance to create change in the world

  • Keep inclusion, equity and diversity at the forefront of our practice

  • Fearlessly tell real stories through choreography; stories that include the social and political unrest that is only ever argued over or swept under the rug. TK Dance Lab presents these issues through a thought-provoking performance, allowing for the audience to have their own internal dialogue, connect to the story and see the issues through a new lens.
