our mission
as a 501-c3 nonprofit arts organization is to bring together artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines
interdisciplinarity
mignolo began as a dance company and has transformed into so much more. Every art has a home at mignolo arts center as well as in the work produced by resident dance company, mignolo dance. From literature to music, from visual art to theater to everything in between, interdisciplinarity is our founding principle and one which informs every facet of our organization.
our Cornerstones
accessibility
Affordability is at the heart of all of our programming; we see no reason that high art can’t be made accessible to wider audiences through reasonable pricing and donation-based structures. No one is turned away from mignolo for lack of funds.
We are committed to providing a low-cost high-quality arts space to accommodate all genres of art in rehearsal, performance, and other event capacities.
We perform as much as possible in New Jersey, which allows audiences that might not be able to travel into New York City an opportunity to experience our work. We also strive to perform in both traditional and nontraditional venues, working to close the often palpable divide between the theater and the general public.
We are dedicated to meeting or exceeding all standards set out by the ADA.
our vision
We envision a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary arts community that transcends the traditional boundaries of not only artistic disciplines, but of social constructs like age, gender, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, and sexuality.
support
We offer classes, workshops, and intensives, both in person and virtually, for professional dancers and artists, allowing local artists to continue honing their craft in a location that is close to home, and providing a rigor and environment comparable to top-tier offerings in New York City and other major metropolitan centers.
In addition to producing new work for both stage and screen, we are eager to provide platforms for other artists to express themselves. From hosting dance festivals to curating a digital interdisciplinary arts magazine to artist residencies, we are committed to providing high-caliber venues for diverse artists to share their work.
It is our priority to do our part in de-stigmatizing mental health related issues, and a portion of our proceeds are donated to children affected by the ongoing Opioid crisis in this country. Visit our website to learn more about our connection to this cause.
community
We are passionate about fostering artistic connections and collaborations, especially amongst New Jersey based artists, through our diverse programming.
We strive to create a space that invites people of all backgrounds across every genre of art to collaborate with one another, bringing varying identities into conversation without hindering the voice of any artist.
