DUAL RIVET is a women-led dance company focused on creating and sharing highly physical contemporary dance to a wide audience. Based in NYC, Dual Rivet creates work for stage and film that exchanges a cinematic and visceral language to influence both platforms. Directors Jessica Smith and Chelsea Ainsworth have been making and presenting work since 2017. They have performed and set work at Festival PRISMA (Panama), Centro Cultural Los Talleres (Mexico), Barnard College/Columbia University, Sam Houston State University, Oklahoma International Dance Festival, Austin Dance Festival, and many more. Dual Rivet is currently on faculty at The Juilliard School, Gibney, Peridance, SUNY Purchase, Marymount Manhattan College, and Adelphi University. The company hosts an annual choreography festival, MADE BY WOMEN, highlighting women choreographers and filmmakers from around the globe.
Dual Rivet’s Contemporary Floorwork class explores intense physicality through strength building techniques, attention to placement and weight, and a curiosity to move. Beginning with a warm up, across the floor, and then robust phrase work, the class emphasizes our maximum physical capacity as movers.
Vasiliki Papapostolou (a.k.a Tarantism) is an international experimental dance artist who incorporates physical theatre, ballroom Latin and movement concepts from street dance styles in her work. She holds a BA from Trinity Laban, London, an MA in Education with Distinction from King’s College London and she was trained with Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel. As a choreographer, she has showcased her work at Sadler’s Wells, Whitechapel Gallery, TEDx Panteion University, The Place and Block 336 - ICF. As a dancer, her credits include performing with Edifice Dance Theatre, Teatro Regio Torino, Pottporus: Company Renegade, Taira Foo Dance Company, Open Art Surgery, Breakin’ Convention. She has been invited to judge international competitions such as KRE8 Lab (UK), Percorsi Coreografici (Italy) and Torre del Lago Dancing Time (Italy).
Vasiliki’s workshop starts with a combination of improvisation and some set exercises aimed at challenging movers to use their fullest potential in movement and exceed their perceived “maximum”. This leads into movement concepts that she used to create her latest work PANOPTICON, and give a deeper understanding into the repertoire.
Doron Perk, founder/artistic director of More Fish Dance Company, studied at the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance, and danced in the Croatian National Theater in Split, Compañía Nacional de Danza in Madrid, the Batsheva Ensemble in Tel Aviv, and ZviDance in New York City amongst others. Doron is a Gaga movement teacher, the founder of Super Chill Ballet, and an adjunct professor at NYU Tisch.
Tori Mazzacone, a Phoenix native, trained at Scottsdale College, Peridance, and GibneyPRO, earning her BFA from Alonzo King LINES Ballet at Dominican University in 2018. Now based in NYC, Tori dances with More Fish Dance Company under Doron Perk and TAQ Dance under Sasha Marlan-Librett. She's also a certified GYROTONIC®️ trainer, balancing her passion for movement with holistic fitness expertise.
More Fish Contemporary Partnering workshops are a dynamic exploration where movement is a conversation and every step is a chance to connect. We start off with a warm up built from improvisation exercises to establish trust, sharpen listening skills, and ignite creativity. We then choreograph and teach a phrase that invites dancers to explore and play. Open level, no need to come with a partner.
